Pakistan International earned the title of the first ever Asian airline to operate jet aircraft when it ordered the Boeing 707-320 in 1959-60 paving the way for flights to London. In 1961-62 PIA acquired 3 brand new 720Bs which were operated on Karachi-New York route. They were later on converted to freighters and eventually but gradually phased out of the fleet. Two of these aircraft were transferred to the Pakistan Airforce which are still in service.
